Macclesfield FC Under-19s A Team secured a dramatic 3 – 2 victory at Solihull Moors yesterday, as they extended their rich vein of form in the National Youth Football League North West Premier Division.

After a competitive start to the fixture, the hosts took the lead in the 15th minute when they were awarded a controversial penalty.

The opening goal buoyed Solihull and they would go on to double their lead seven minutes later when a powerful run was emphatically finished.

Despite being faced with a two-goal deficit, Paul McGuire’s side showed an incredible amount of defiance from this point on and pulled a goal back in the 35th minute when Tyler James launched a mesmerising solo run before rounding the goalkeeper to slot the ball home.

Our Under-19s A Team celebrate what proved to be a memorable victory yesterday.

The visitors restored parity five minutes before the interval thanks to an incredible free-kick from Carlos Dos Santos, as their attention turned to completing a remarkable comeback.

Macc returned for the second period in devastating fashion, as they laid siege to Solihull’s goal in search of a third goal.

This duly came on 54 minutes, when a blistering move saw Basit Yusuf slam the ball home from close-range.

Whilst the remaining duals were largely fought in the middle of the pitch and chances for both sides were largely speculative, there was still time for some late drama when the hosts were awarded an 80th minute penalty.

Elliot Cooper proved to be the hero however, as his agile save meant that the Silkmen youngsters were able to complete a dramatic comeback victory.
