Silkmen manager Alex Bruce was full of praise for his side after a convincing 5-0 victory over National League side Dorking Wanderers in the Isuzu FA Trophy.

Macclesfield went into a two-goal lead at halftime thanks to goals from Tunde Owolabi and Alex Curran and carried on the momentum in the second thanks to goals from Owolabi, Paul Dawson, and Luke Duffy.

It was a professional display from Macc and Bruce was delighted with the display he got from his side.

He said: “I was absolutely delighted with them, it was the complete performance and that’s what they are capable of and that’s why when we have results like last week, we all get frustrated.

“If they keep playing like that then they’ve set the standards and I thought they were magnificent to a man, every single one of them was a joy to watch and I think everyone in the ground could see that.”

The Silkmen were the better side for the majority of the game against their National League opponent and didn’t look out of place. Bruce has said in the past about aspiring to the levels of Wanderers for Macc in the future and was pleased with the potential his side showed.

He stated: “It was a good benchmark to see where the players are at and what they are capable of.

“The gauntlet is we throw it down to them is can they repeat it and that’s the challenge and what I keep trying to drive.”

Drew Baker and Tunde Owolabi made their first home starts for The Silkmen since signing and both were influential at either end of the field. Owolabi scored two crucial goals midway through each half and Baker looked assured at the back.

Bruce was pleased with the impact they made. He said: “I thought they were excellent.

“It was a good opportunity to have a look at him (Drew), I’ve got some good options at centre back going forward.”

The Silkmen progress into the fifth round of the FA Trophy in which a trip to Hampton and Richmond Borough has recently been confirmed.
