It was a day to remember for The Silkmen as goals from Lewis Fensome and Sam Heathcote progressed Macc into the FA Trophy Quarter Finals.
Over 400 Silkmen supporters made the journey to South West London to mark another memorable day in the club’s history.
Manager Alex Bruce paid tribute to The Silkmen fans for driving the side into the last eight of the competition.
He said: “From the first minute to the very last we totally dominated the game. Delighted for them (the players), and delighted for the supporters who made the effort.
“It was one of those really good days and I hope everyone enjoys their night.”
The Silkmen were the better team for large proportions of the game and had many chances in the first half with Heathcote forcing a smart save from home keeper Desbois.
Every single player held their head up high having made the long journey and putting in the performance that they did. Bruce was delighted with the way his side adapted.
He said: “The way they approached the game, the professionalism, the manner in which they passed the ball around.
“I said to the players why can’t you play like that every week because they’ve shown especially in the cup this season against teams in the league above what we are capable of.
“It’s about doing in on a consistent basis and if we do, if we can achieve that, it could be a really season for all involved.”
Saturday’s result means that The Silkmen are now only two games away from Wembley and Bruce has full confidence in the squad in the trophy and league run in.
He said: “With the group that I’ve got, there’s no reason we can’t carry on going.”
Macclesfield will find out their opponents for the last eight this afternoon at 3:!5pm on talkSPORT2 or Isuzu UK’s Official Social Media channels.
