BRUCE: “WE ALL NEED TO STICK TOGETHER”

22 Jan 2024 | Latest News

Silkmen manager Alex Bruce encouraged the need for unity as his side battled so hard with 10 men despite falling to a home defeat to league leaders Radcliffe.

Macc had to play more than 50 minutes with a man disadvantage after Tunde Owolabi was dismissed for an apparent high foot late in the first half.

The Silkmen came back from a goal down thanks to goals from Alex Curran and Kane Drummond but a Jordan Hulme hat-trick sunk Macc.

Bruce highlighted the need for togetherness heading into the last three months of the season.

He said: “We all need to stick together, treat every game as it comes, and try and get as many points as we can because as a group we have enough to still get out of this league.

“Yes today is a disappointment but we’ve got to bounce back and go again next week.”

The Silkmen caused Radcliffe a number of problems going forward and deserved more than what the score line suggests. Bruce mentioned that there were more positives to take than negatives.

He said: “Absolutely, the lads did well. We were the better team first half but then obviously the red card changes things.

“It was always going to be an uphill task with 10 men but when you get yourself 2-1 ahead in the game, you want to try and hang on and unfortunately today we couldn’t.”

There were over 4,000 fans at the Leasing.com Stadium on Saturday who were treated to an entertaining encounter. Bruce was very complimenting of the Silkmen faithful.

He said: “The supporters are fantastic and my message to them is stick with us because they are going to play a huge part between now and the end of the season.

“We’ve got all to play for, we’ve got a good cup run to look forward to so I am certainly not getting too down on the performance today.”

The Silkmen travel to Yorkshire on Saturday as we travel to Guiseley looking to bounce back against another promotion rival.
