SILKMEN SET TO PAY TRIBUTE TO FORMER CHAIRMAN ALLAN BROCKLEHURST

06 Apr 2023 | Latest News

We are saddened to report the death of Allan Brocklehurst, the former Chairman of Macclesfield Town.

Allan joined the Board in 1975 and became Chairman in February 1976.

Attendances were between 300 and 600 back in those days and the team finished the season in fifteenth place within the Northern Premier League.

It would only be fair to credit Allan with starting the which saw The Silkmen progress to the dizzy heights of the third tier of English football.

It took until the 1980s before the Club started to win more games than it lost and the inspired appointment of Brian Booth in 1981 catalysed the Club’s upward trajectory.

After Booth retired due to ill health, Allan was instrumental in the installation of first Peter Wragg and later Sammy McIlroy as managers – continuing the momentum that had previously been nurtured.

Allan stepped down as Chairman in December 1993 after almost eighteen years in the role – but remained a constant presence at the Club right through to the current season, travelling to all games home and away whilst his was in the country.

Allan spent his retirement between Ibiza and Macclesfield and attended his last game against Colne in January.

Allan will be sorely missed by all who knew him at our Football Club and we will be holding a minute’s silence ahead of Saturday’s game against City of Liverpool to formally pay our respects.
