MATCH REPORT: MACCLESFIELD 1 V 0 SKELMERSDALE UNITED

07 Nov 2022 | Match Report

The Silkmen made it two consecutive league wins against Skelmersdale United on Saturday afternoon, thanks to James Berry’s twelfth goal of the season.

James Berry and Taylor Prescott had the first chances of the afternoon for their respective sides, though neither were able to open the scoring inside the first ten minutes.

A fairly uneventful fifteen minutes then followed – until James Berry sparked the game in to life, slotting the ball past Sam Ashton after being played through by an insightful Alex Curran pass.

The Silkmen held a slender lead at the break, though seemed relatively unphased by the opposition’s offerings in the opening forty-five.

Neil Kengni had a good chance to double Macc’s lead just before the hour mark, though could only poke wide from Curran’s creative cross.

Joe Bunney attempted the spectacular directly from a Macclesfield free kick on the half-way line won by Berry, spotting Ashton off his line, who had to back pedal to ensure he had the audacious attempt covered as it looped on to the roof of his net.

A series of substitutions for both sides ensued, which saw James Hardy and Mark Duffy replace Neil Kengni and Alex Curran respectively.

Mark Duffy was on hand to create one final opportunity out of nothing, feeding James Berry with a pass many wouldn’t have visualised, though Macc;s former shot-stopper was on hand to deny the winger his second of the day.

Tom Clare replaced Nicky Maynard at the end of regulation time to see the Silkmen over the line to another victory after three minute of stoppage time.

The Silkmen will look to extend their unbeaten run under the new management team and go in search of a third successive league win away at Trafford FC next Saturday.

Macclesfield FC: Pitaluga, Pemberton, Bunney, Fensome, Mendy ©, Murphy, Kengni (Hardy 64’), Danns, Maynard (Clare 90’), Curran (Duffy 70’’), Berry.

Subs not used: Hanson, Grimshaw
