MCNABB: “THE FANS WERE FANTASTIC”

New Silkmen manager David McNabb thanked the home faithful for the reception they gave him, as he began his reign in perfect fashion with victory over Workington.

McNabb took charge of his first game for the Club just a day after his appointment as four goals from four different scorers saw the home side home in the top-of-the-table clash.

Macc had the better of proceedings throughout the game and were well worthy of a vital three points in the Northern Premier League West Division.

After the victory, McNabb said:

“We only met the lads about an hour or so before the game. They took on board the messages we wanted to give them and played the way we wanted them to play.

“Any win in this league is a good win – especially against a good footballing side, so I’m made up with the start.”

The Silkmen were helped by a fantastic save by Marcelo Pitaluga from the penalty spot whilst the score was 2-1 and was one of a number of saves the Brazilian made to deny our Cumbrian visitors.

McNabb brings with him a high pressing identity with high levels of intensity and thought the performance on Tuesday night was excellent.

David added:

“In spells I thought we were excellent, I thought we pressed them really well, pressed in units and played quite well overall.

“We’ve had minimal time with the lads so there is going to be things we want them to work on and maybe a different way of playing, but I’m sure they will get the messages quite quickly.”

The Leasing.com Stadium was in fine voice throughout for the new man in charge and McNabb was pleased with the reception he got from the Silkmen faithful.

David went on to say:

“I think the fans were fantastic all night – giving me a really good reception, so I thank them for that.

“I think they got us through the game as well when we had a few tough moments – they were signing loud and proud and it made a difference”
