Silkmen manager Alex Bruce praised his side’s bravery in yesterday’s 3-2 victory away at Warrington Rylands to kickstart 2024 in style.

Thanks to a John Rooney hat-trick, the Silkmen picked up all three points to the fellow Cheshire side. Bruce’s side went into halftime 2-1 in front before being pegged back early in the second half.

Macc then got the winning goal 20 minutes from time through Rooney after strong build up play from new signing Tunde Owolabi and Bruce praised his side’s comeback.

He said: “I was pleased with the reaction to go and get the third.

“I said to the players, that was our time to show a different kind of bravery,  keep the ball, play in their half, these are all the things I want.”

Bruce went on to say: “The manner and effort in which we dug in, got the win which was key as we all knew how important it was before the game so I was pleased with that.”

Macc were often enemies of their own downfall letting Rylands back into the game on two occasions which Bruce stated was the only disappointment from the game.

He said: “We gave ourselves a mountain to climb when your two nil up to concede two goals was the only disappointment of the day.”

In what is a big month of fixtures for The Silkmen in which Dorking Wanderers in The FA Trophy and league leaders Radcliffe visit The Leasing.com Stadium, Bruce touched on how important the squad’s mentality will be after a big victory.

He stated: “I hope it will stand us in good stead, it’s a really good start to the year.

“We’ve gave ourselves a chance now and we need to go and capitalise on that.”

The Silkmen return to The Leasing.com Stadium on Saturday as Lancaster City are the visitors in the first home game of the new year.
