The Silkmen ran out 2 – 1 winners in their fifth pre-season fixture at home to Connah’s Quay Nomads on Tuesday evening, thanks to two first-half strikes from D’Mani Mellor and Danny Whitehead.
Familiar faces returned to the Leasing.com Stadium for The Nomads, including Callum West, Dan Cowan, and Marco Fregapane.
Three trialists took their place in the Silkmen side, along with Carlos Dos Santos, who signed a permanent deal with the Club earlier in the day.
Macc dominated both possession and chances in the first 45, making it count just 8 minutes in when D’Mani Mellor smashed home a trademark low cross from Brandon Lee.
Danny Whitehead soon doubled the lead with a magnificent effort from range, leaving The Nomads ‘keeper helpless as the ball flew past him at pace and into the top corner.
The Silkmen held a comfortable two-goal lead for the remainder of the first half, going into the interval looking the stronger side of the two.
The Nomads came out fighting after the break though, halving the deficit via Max Woodcock just six minutes into the second period from close range after Macc failed to clear their lines.
Wholesale changes were made on the hour mark, with only Brandon Lee and Max Dearnley remaining on the pitch from the first 60.
A fresh home side were able to see out a hard-fought win in front of 407 Silkmen supporters, despite The Nomads pushing for an equaliser throughout the closing stages.
Macc face Barwell and a Derby County XI in their penultimate and final pre-season fixtures at the Leasing.com Stadium ahead of our debut season in the Enterprise National League North.
