Macclesfield FC are delighted to have captured the signature of Josh Kay on loan from Oldham Athletic!
The 28 year-old midfielder moves to Macc from EFL League Two side Oldham, managed by Micky Mellon, following their promotion from the National League last season. Kay has since fortunately since been allowed to leave on loan to boost the Silkmen’s options in the middle of the park.
Previously of AFC Fylde, Chesterfield, Barnsley and most notably Barrow AFC, Kay has enjoyed stints at a higher level throughout his playing career to date, a highlight of which being a key part of Barrow’s National League winning side in 2020 under then Manager Ian Evatt.
Josh now joins the Silkmen in a bid to support their playoff push in the Enterprise National League North this season and will no doubt feature heavily in doing so with reinforcements required due to various injuries amongst the current Macc ranks.
Typically playing off the left, though right-footed, Kay is recognised for his movement on and off the ball, dribbling, eye for a pass and his versatile nature, as he’s also capable of featuring in any of the attacking midfield roles.
Manager John Rooney was delighted to have secured Josh’s services when speaking to Silkmen TV on his arrival “I’ve known Josh a long time, I’ve played with him, I know what he’s about, I know his character, he’s a good lad and I’m sure he’ll fit right in with us and the great bunch we’ve got in the changing room already”
Equally, Kay himself spoke to Silkmen TV upon signing, telling us “I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll give 110% every game and try to make things happen. I feel like I’ve got plenty of experience which I can pass on to the younger lads. I played in this league early on in my career so I know it’s going to be tough but I can’t wait to get going and get as many games as I can under my belt”
Josh’s full first interview will be available to view shortly on our Youtube channel.
Everyone at Macclesfield FC would like to give Josh a very warm welcome to the Club and wish him all the very best for the season ahead!
