The Programme
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 in Sport Coaching and Development is part of a suite of sports qualifications, in a range of sizes, which share the common purpose of helping people to become occupationally ready to take up employment in the sport sector at the appropriate level. By studying a BTEC National, learners develop knowledge, understanding and skills required by the sector, including essential employability skills, and apply them in real work contexts.
It covers many aspects of the sport sector including:
- Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry;
- Health, Wellbeing and Sport
- Developing Coaching Skills
There will be daily football training by our full-time Macclesfield FC coaches and competitive matches will typically take place in the EFL – CEFA League, FA Youth Cup, North West Under-21 Development League, British Universities and Colleges League and Cheshire Senior Cup.
It’s the goal of the Football Academy staff to provide opportunities for elite players to participate in training with the Macclesfield FC senior squad on a regular basis.

BTEC Level Two
This is a fantastic, practical work-related course where you will learn by completing projects, practical bases activities and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities – including coaching a range of different community groups.
This course will introduce you to a number of different career paths and provide a great basis to progress onto a more advanced qualification. Football participation will include intensive coaching, gym sessions and competitive matches throughout the duration of the course.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
4 GCSES at Grade 5 or above – ideally to include English Language or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject.
A GCSE PE / Sports Studies qualification would also be advantageous and you will need to be able to demonstrate a reasonable degree of fitness.

BTEC Level Three
Our choice of qualification in the BTEC Level 3 in Sport Coaching and Development provides learners with the opportunity to progress to University in a variety of pathways. A full extended diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels and carries the same UCAS Tariff Points. For example, a D*D*D* is equivalent to 3 A* at A Level, whilst a MMM BTEC Grade is equivalent to 3 Cs at A Level.

Additional Information
Football participation will be varied with both football and physical gym training taking place throughout the duration of the course.
Macclesfield FC Academy Kit can be purchased via the Football Club supplier.
All players will be expected (where possible) to wear Football Club leisurewear and training kit whilst participating on the football academy course.
These will typically take place in the EFL – CEFA League, FA Youth Cup, British Colleges League, the National Football Youth League, Cheshire Senior Cup (senior), Central Reserve League (senior).
It’s the goal of the Football Academy staff to provide opportunities for elite players to participate in training with the Macclesfield FC senior team squad.
Players will be coached by the Macclesfield FC full-time coaches, who are all UEFA-qualified.

If I enrol, can I still play for my current team?
If you enrol with us, it is highly likely that you can still play for your junior side if you so wish.
What happens if I don't get my predicted GCSE grades?
If you do not get your predicted grades, you can come to the enrolment sessions at Macclesfield FC and the tutors will suggest the best options for you.
