BRUCE: “IF YOU UNDERESTIMATE ANY OPPONENT, YOU CAN GET PUNISHED”

Silkmen manager Alex Bruce was disappointed with his side’s individual mistakes after Saturday’s loss at home against Bradford (Park Avenue).

Bruce suffered his first defeat as Silkmen boss after a frustrating performance against struggling Bradford (Park Avenue).

Bruce was disappointed with the errors made by his side.

He said: “We got frustrated with the game, we got frustrated with ourselves and we started making silly mistakes.

“I thought defensively we made too many individual errors, and it was just a bad afternoon”

Bruce went on to say that it was “The first real speedbump in the road for us.”

The Silkmen started brightly, a goal in three minutes from in-form Kane Drummond got Macc off to a flyer. However, after an exciting first half, a goal straight after the break from Jordan Preston put the visitors ahead and proved to be the winner.

With Bradford (Park Avenue) coming into the game in poor form, losing four of their last five, Bruce stated that he believes the Silkmen underestimated the West Yorkshire side.

He said: “If you underestimate teams at any level, you can get found out and that’s exactly what’s happened today.

“The players need to learn from it, they need to have a reaction and I’m sure I’ll get that.”

Bruce also touched on the fact that his side was too open which helped Bradford (Park Avenue).

He stated: “We were too open in midfield, the distances between the back four, between all of them were too big.

“When you have big distances between players you become easy to play against.”

Bruce said that the biggest thing to take away from the game was: “If you underestimate any opponent you’ll get punished” and stated that “it’s something that needs to be addressed.”

The Silkmen travel to Borough Park on Tuesday night to face Workington A.F.C and will be looking for a reaction to the disappointing loss against Bradford (Park Avenue).
