BRUCE: “WE KEEP THROWING A GRENADE INTO THE PACK”

08 Jan 2024 | Latest News

Manager Alex Bruce was disappointed with his side’s first half performance after going two goals down and ultimately coming away empty-handed.

The Silkmen were way below par in the first half and went in 2-0 down thanks to goals from Sam and Charlie Bailey.

A John Rooney penalty gave The Silkmen a second-half goal but Bruce was unimpressed by the first half display.

He said: “The first half was totally unacceptable.

“We’ve got a performance like that in us and it’s my job to try and get to the bottom into why.”

The Silkmen came back into the game in the second half and were dominant throughout but couldn’t take the chances that came their way.

Lancaster frustrated Macc for large parts of the game and showed their experience to see the game out.

Bruce stated that his side need to eradicate the poor performances and find the right balance in eliminating the first half display.

He said: “We have to find it within ourselves and putting demands on each other.

“We basically need to stop throwing a grenade in the pack like I have spoke about before where we just turn up and expect to win games because it doesn’t work like that.

“You need to approach games in the right manner and control games better.”

Bruce’s side now go into Tuesday night away to Matlock Town and hinted that things could be freshened up.

He stated: “Yes, there’s an opportunity that we could look at a couple of things.

“I will assess the players and like I do in every game, I will pick a team to go and win.”

A victory on Tuesday night could move Macc back level with Worksop Town in third ahead of a break from league action at the weekend.
