CURRAN: “WE KNOW WE CAN BEAT THEM”

Midfielder Alex Curran indicated that the squad is full of confidence ahead of a trip to his former side Curzon Ashton in the Third Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.

The Silkmen are unbeaten since Alex Bruce took charge of the side back in October and Curran believes that the side goes into today’s game with the mindset of victory.

He said: “I think they’ll be even more up for it because we’ve been there and beaten them before which doesn’t mean anything, but at the same time we know we can beat them.”

Curran has 22 goal involvements so far this season in all competitions and has recently moved back into midfield in recent games. The Silkmen came from behind to beat National League North side Alfreton Town in the last round thanks to goals from Curran, Kane Drummond, and a Luke Duffy brace.

The FA Trophy is a competition which means a lot to Non League sides and Curran stated that The Silkmen are in it to win it: “It’s a massive competition, it’s just as important as The FA Cup, so its good that the club gets money for it.

“We’ve also mentioned in the changing room it’s six games (to Wembley) so we are going to do our best in every game.”

The Nash will be a different proposition to the side that was defeated 4-1 by The Silkmen back in pre season. Craig Mahon has recently taken permanent charge leading the hosts to a play off position, but Curran believes it will be an entertaining affair.

He added: “They are a good passing team and they’ve got a good pitch so it should be a good game of football with both teams trying to play.

“It will be a good game from the fans point of view to hopefully come and watch two teams try and play football and trying to do it in the right way.”

Curran also paid tribute to The Silkmen fans and the support will be vitally important. In response to how important the fans will be, he said: “Definitely, it helps when the fans are there and it massively helps.

“It just showed at Alfreton, they were brilliant there and when the game was so tight they spurred us on and helped us get the win.”
