Macclesfield FC are delighted to have extended the contract of International Football Group success story and First Team prodigy Carlos Dos Santos for another season!
Having signed his initial senior deal last summer shortly after John Rooney was named as the new Macclesfield Manager, and impressed throughout the duration of the 2025/26 season, the Gaffer has insisted on keeping Carlos in and around the first team for another season.
Carlos progressed through the ranks with Macc in a manner which had gone far from unnoticed, taking centre stage during his time in the IFG programme, featuring prominently as top scorer in consecutive seasons before being awarded the Captaincy in his final season for the U23 Shadow Youth Team, eventually earning him a loan deal to Newcastle Town under Neil Baker.
Manager Rooney had kept tabs on how Dos Santos was excelling, whilst also having the opportunity to experience his quality first hand during various first team training sessions, invited to by then Manager Robbie Savage. Upon taking the top job, Rooney was keen to bring the youngster in to the first team fold permanently, rewarding him with an initial contract last summer.
Since being in the senior squad, Carlos has made 28 appearances, predominantly from the bench, including a memorable cameo against Crystal Palace, earning him valuable experience when provided with the opportunity to make a positive impact and impression when called upon by Rooney, which he has done so with flying colours, boasting solidarity and a calm head both in and out of possession.
The vast amount of games played during the 2025/26 campaign in four different competitions, requiring significant squad rotation enabled the talent midfielder to make his first senior start in the Emirates FA Cup at the Leasing.com Stadium against Atherton LR. He also featured from the off again against Congleton Town in the Cheshire Senior Cup and away at both South Shields and Woking in the Isuzu FA Trophy, before making two league starts at Scarborough and Radcliffe before the end of the season.
Having gradually bedded in to the side over the course of the season just gone under the careful supervision of Rooney, Carlos’ game time will inevitably increase further in the upcoming 2026/27 season and is developing suitably to become a regular feature in the Manager’s team selection.
Everyone at Macclesfield FC is delighted to learn of Carlos’ contract extension and wish him luck ahead of what will likely prove to be another important breakthrough season for the midfield maestro.
