DUFFY’S THREE YEARS WITH THE SILKMEN

On this day, three years ago, Macclesfield FC announced the addition of Luke Duffy to the ranks, joining from Warrington Town on a permanent basis. Thirty six months on, we reflect on Duffs’ achievements in his three years with the Silkmen.

The winger was recruited by then Manager Mark Duffy ahead of the Silkmen’s 2023/24 season in the Northern Premier League, boasting twenty goal involvements in the previous season with the Yellows, resulting in promotion to the National League North, Duffy was a sure fire way to climbing the table at the step three and proved to be exactly that.

Duffy was an incredible addition, with the Silkmen hitting the ground running in their new league, almost immediately making themselves a favourite for a third successive promotion to step two, reaching the Isuzu FA Trophy semi-final and the league play-off final, though falling short at the penultimate and final hurdles respectively, bowing out to Gateshead in the Trophy, before suffering defeat to Marine on the final day.

Eager to make amends, the Silkmen came out of the traps flying upon the dawn of the new era under Robbie Savage, for whom Duffy remained a mainstay in the Macc side and played a pivotal role in our record breaking promotion winning 2024/25 season to the Enterprise National League North alongside now Manager John Rooney in midfield.

Duffy continued to impress in our inaugural season at step two under fellow Liverpudlian Rooney, again playing a major role in reaching both the Fourth Round of the Emirates FA Cup, having beaten competition holders and Premier League giants Crystal Palace in the previous round, before reaching the play-off semi-final, though falling to a 3-1 defeat against Kidderminster Harriers. Despite the shortcoming, the technically gifted winger was nominated by his team mates as Players Player of the Year for 2025/26.

Now eager to make amends as per our story in the division below, Duffy will inevitably play yet another prominent role in Macc’s charge for the Enterprise National League North title, getting off to the best possible start with victory away at Marine on Saturday afternoon.

Everyone at Macclesfield FC would like to congratulate Luke on his achievements during his first three years with the Silkmen and wish him luck for the 2026/27 season ahead.
