Macclesfield FC are delighted to have retained the services of management duo John Rooney and Francis Jeffers, both agreeing to extend their stays with Club having signed new deals earlier today!
After an incredible first season in charge of the Silkmen, John and Franny have expressed their wish to remain with the Club for the forseeable future, news which couldn’t have been welcomed any more warmly by everyone associated with Macclesfield FC, who are all thrilled that the pair will continue to lead the First Team in to the 2026/27 season.
John was handed the reigns by Chairman Rob Smethurst last summer and has excelled ever since, well-surpassing expectation in his first season in management and quickly gained the full trust and support of the board, players and fans alike, who we are sure will be delighted to learn of his eagerness to retain his role as Manager.
Franny joined the Club as Assistant Manager shortly after John took over at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, a trusted confidant of the Manager for many years having been coached by Franny earlier in his career.
The duo have complimented each other excellently throughout what has been a rollercoaster season of ups and downs, though have come out of it with the utmost respect of everyone associated with Macclesfield FC and the wider footballing community.
Most notably achieving what is hailed as the biggest ever Emirates FA Cup upset, beating competition holders Crystal Palace at the Leasing.com Stadium in January, whilst guiding the group through a period of mourning following the loss of Ethan McLeod just before Christmas. An unthinkable life event which the management team handled with such dignity and represented the Club impeccably through such a difficult period in the history of Macclesfield FC.
The backlog of league fixtures that also resulted from the Silkmen’s progression in four different competitions has provided a unique challenge too which John and Franny have taken in their stride and since led the team from 15th to 4th in the Enterprise National League North in the space of four months.
Since the culmination of the 2025/26 season, the Silkmen saw off Chester at the semi-finals stage of the play-offs at the Leasing.com Stadium last Wednesday evening before falling slightly short at the penultimate hurdle against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday afternoon.
Regardless of the eventual outcome of the season, everyone at Macclesfield FC is incredibly proud of what our management team have achieved in such a short space of time and couldn’t be a better fit to take the Club forward as such willing servants and are equally as deserving of their new deals, which will see them lead the Silkmen in to the upcoming 2026/27 season.
We’d like to congratulate John and Franny on their success to date and wish them the very best of luck for what is no doubt going to be a very exciting future with Macclesfield FC!
