John Rooney scored an unusual winner to secure all three points for Alex Bruce’s side.

The Silkmen’s number ten flicked the ball with his back to the goal in the box which found its way past James Pradic despite his best efforts.

The Brig attempted to clear the ball from the box multiple times, but it fell to Rooney who capitalised in the 79th minute to put the home side 2-1 up.

The inform Kane Drummond opened the scoring in the 11th minute after a long ball from Drew Baker fell into the forward’s path.

The 23-year-old lifted the ball with the top of his right foot which flew past the keeper into the right side of the goal.

Macclesfield also struggled to clear the ball from danger which led to the Brig’s equaliser in the 58th minute.

Harry Scarborough scored from inside the box after a diving header two minutes earlier which went just wide of the goal.

Drummond came close to putting the game to bed in the 88th minute when Tre Pemberton crossed the ball along the floor to his feet.

The forward struck the ball from just outside the six-yard box, but the ball flew over the bar to the relief of the away fans.

The visitors had many opportunities including a well worked corner which demanded a great save from Dylan Berry at close range.

Brandon Lee passed the ball down the line to Neil Kengni who played a through ball to Drummond in a threatening position.

Kane ran towards goal but pressure from the defence forced him to shoot at a tight angle.

His effort ended up hitting the side netting and going out for a goal kick.

The Silkmen’s first chance came in the eighth minute when Alex Curran passed to Alex Hurst who had his attempt saved.

Bamber Bridge appealed for a penalty in the 29th minute after Scarborough went down in the box, but he was given a yellow card for diving.

This result adds pressure to the teams ahead of Macclesfield who are currently sixth in the league and pushing for a playoff spot.
