A second half turnaround engineered by Luke Duffy and Tunde Owolabi saw Macclesfield take all three points from Nottingham against Basford United.

The game began in an unusual style for The Silkmen, as they struggled to stamp their authority on their opponents.

Despite large chunks of possession, Michael Clegg’s men failed to find a way through the defensive line of the hosts.

Macc’s best chances of the first half came from corners, when Laurent Mendy’s header crashed off the crossbar early on.

And then later on in the half when Luke Duffy missed a glorious chance after being laid off inside the box after a short corner.

But both sides failed to make a breakthrough and the game was level at halftime.

The second half began in the same vein, and the game looked destined to end in a goalless draw. That was until a moment of magic sparked the game into life in the 67th minute.

Basford’s Toby Ritzema tried his luck from over 30 yards out and caught out Ollie Byrne, as the ball cannoned off of both posts before crossing the line.

This brought Macclesfield to life in the game, and Duffy found an equaliser just minutes later. Dawson played him through on goal, and Duffy slotted home to level.

Duffy then turned provider in the 84th minute to set up Owolabi, who converted the cross to give The Silkmen a much needed lead.

And Owolabi sealed the three points in the 90th minute with a smashing effort into the top corner, to ensure that Macclesfield’s promotion push continued.
