John Rooney’s stunning goal from the halfway line was not enough to secure all three points for Macclesfield after Remaye Campbell scored from the penalty spot.
The Silkmen’s number 10 collected the ball in his own half and immediately lifted it over goalkeeper Kieran Preston from the halfway line who was unable to scramble his way back to goal.
Rooney saw Preston off his line in the 45th minute and took advantage which left the keeper helpless on the floor in slippery conditions.
Early in the second half, Remaye Campbell slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal sending Dylan Berry the wrong way after a penalty was awarded to the Ambers.
The Silkmen’s goalkeeper Berry made crucial saves throughout the game including a ferocious free kick strike from Jack Thomas which he was able to get a hand to.
Macclesfield thought they opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Alex Curran tapped the ball into the goal from inside the box, but it was ruled out by the referee.
Berry was called into action once again after a strike in the box was saved but spilled towards Joshua Barnes who hit the ball wide to the left of the goal.
Lewis Fensome made an impact on both ends of the pitch with an effort on goal which was stopped brilliantly by Preston and a crucial clearance to deny Mason Frizelle scoring for the Ambers.
Jordan Hallam went down in the box earlier in the game appealing for a penalty when he mis-controlled the ball and was brought to the ground which was not given as a foul.
Both sides had opportunities to go ahead but excellent defending and goalkeeping kept the game level.
This result leaves Macclesfield unbeaten in the league since Alex Bruce’s arrival after their victory to Whitby town at the Leasing.com Stadium on the weekend.
