Macclesfield’s first pre-season game ended in defeat to League one opposition Mansfield Town.

Don Dwyer and Rhys Oates with the goals for Mansfield as they got the win against The Silkmen.

The game began with Macclesfield creating the first chance of the game as D’Mani Mellor drove into the penalty area, passed the ball to new signing Isaac Buckley-Ricketts with his loose touch intercepted and going for a corner. 10 minutes in Sean Etaluku broke through Mansfield’s defence with his attempted pass to Mellor being intercepted. Into the 17th minute mark, Mansfield went ahead through Dom Dwyer. Kyle Knowle ran down the right hand side with his cross being headed into the net from Dwyer. Mansfield were in behind again a couple of minutes later as Kyle McAdam whipped a great cross into the box as Dwyer failed to get any contact.

Into the last 15 minutes of the first half, Kyle McAdam played the ball down to Dwyer whose shot from the penalty spot went over the bar. Mansfield are dominating this half with the difference in league places visible. Just before the half time whistle, George Maris played a beautiful corner into the box with Will Evans having a free header which just went over the bar.

Half time, The Silkmen are 1-0 down to league one Mansfield Town.

The second half began with The Silkmen having a freekick early on as Louis Reed stepped up with his freekick going just wide of the post. 3 minutes later Elliott Whitehouse’s shot from just outside the area is comfortably saved. Macclesfield’s second 11 came out in the second half fighting. Just after the hour mark, Luke Duffy passed two Mansfield defenders as he played in Danny Elliott whose attempted chipped shot was saved. The 64th minute arrived with Mansfield doubling their lead through Rhys Oates who tapped the ball into the net from Jakub Krusynski scuffed shot fell into the path of Oates.

With ten minutes of the game left to go, Mansfield’s second goalscorer Rhys Oates was played in behind the Silkmen’s defence as his shot went just over the bar.

The game came to an end with Mansfield coming out victorious at the Leasing.com Stadium.

Macclesfield will go again in pre-season on Tuesday night as they travel to Newcastle Town.
