As the Silkmen head into their sixth season after reform, we are taking a look back at our past opening fixtures.
The Silkmen are currently unbeaten on the opening day of the season since their reformation, winning all five of their opening clashes.
Many supporters won’t ever forget that fixture against Burscough at the end of July 2021, where Danny Whitaker led his newly formed Silkmen for the first time.
It was a perfect start to our North West Counties Premier campaign as Leon Arnasalam’s famous goal secured a winning start for the new Macclesfield.
The 2022/23 season saw the Silkmen enter the Northern Premier League system as they secured promotion to the Northern Premier League Division One West.
Our first competitive fixture wasn’t actually a league game that season, as we defeated Wythenshawe Town at the Leasing.com Stadium in the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
League action kicked off with a visit of Clitheroe to the Leasing.com Stadium on a warm day at the beginning of August.
The Silkmen started in fine fashion with a 3-0 victory over The Blues thanks to a brace from James Berry and also Nicky Maynard getting on the scoresheet.
Back-to-back promotions ensued which saw the Silkmen test their wits in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
It would be a tough start for Mark Duffy’s side as they would travel to a recently relegated side from the National League North in the form of Bradford Park Avenue.
A trip to the Horsfall Stadium saw Macclesfield get off to the perfect start with a 2-0 victory over the West Yorkshire outfit.
Alex Curran slotted Macc into a first half lead before record signing Luke Duffy headed home his first goal for the Club on his debut.
After the heartbreak of the Play-Off defeat to Marine at the end of the 2023/24 season, The Silkmen started out another season in the Northern Premier League on the road once again.
It was possibly the toughest opening game that the Silkmen could have wished for as they were lined up for a trip to Nottinghamshire to take on Worksop Town on Matchday One.
Both sides were keen to kick off their campaign in the best possible fashion, and a proper battling ensued on the pitch as Robbie Savage’s side looked to kick off with a win.
It took until the very last minute for the breakthrough to arrive as Luke Duffy drove home from just inside the box to send the away following in raptures and start the season as they meant to go on.
After both sides were promoted to the Enterprise National League North, The Silkmen and The Tigers would meet again on Matchday One this time at the Leasing.com Stadium.
John Rooney would take his first league game in charge after his appointment in the summer and he would get off to the perfect start.
Despite going behind to a Aleks Starcenko goal, the Silkmen would get straight back into the game as Paul Dawson headed home Sean Etaluku’s deep cross.
Danny Elliott would fire the Silkmen in front just before the hour mark before Captain Fantastic scored his second of the game to get the Silkmen off to the perfect start.
