Report: Blyth Spartans

Macclesfield FC continue their reign of dominance in the Northern Premier League after a whopping 6-0 win over Blyth Spartans.

Less than a minute in, John Rooney took the lead for the Silkmen after some link-up play with James Edmondson from a short corner, allowing him a bit of room to shoot and score.

In the 11th minute, Sean Etaluku managed to head the ball forward to find D’Mani Mellor who drove his shot from the right-hand side of the penalty area, straight into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

Five minutes later, Danny Elliott found himself on the scoresheet when he fancied a shot on the edge of the area. Blyth Spartans’ keeper, Adam Richardson, blocked the shot, but a bit of misfortune would see the ball rise in the air and drop into the goal.

Heading into the second half, Luke Duffy almost scored when his shot was guided just wide of the post after the ball was played into the box by Neil Kengni.

Paul Dawson attempted a shot from outside the box, firing on target which forced a save from the keeper.

Inside 80 minutes, substitute, Justin Johnson, played a significant through ball which saw Mellor sprinting through on goal. The Manchester-born striker managed to go around the keeper before extending Macclesfield’s lead to four.

Elliott earned a brace for himself in the 87th minute after Johnson played the ball across goal and past the keeper, making it an easy finish for the Silkmen’s top scorer.

Towards the last kick of the game, Robbie Savage urged his side to go forward, aiming to get one more, which paid off for Mellor who claimed his hat-trick.

Macclesfield keep their unbeaten record in the league and go back to 13 points clear off second place.

The next fixture will feature a trip to Derby as the Silkmen continue their league action against Mickleover FC on Tuesday night.

A special recognition as well to those who volunteered to help clear the pitch of snow on Friday and Saturday as you helped keep the game alive.
