Macclesfield FC got back to winning ways after a 2-0 victory against FC United of Manchester at the Leasing.com Stadium.
The away side pressured the Silkmen early when Gerald Sithole’s testing shot was on target but was saved and held by Max Dearnley.
Robbie Savage’s side found the breakthrough in the 11th minute as Tre Pemberton’s blocked shot fell to D’Mani Mellor who managed to score from his second opportunity, after his first shot was originally saved by the keeper.
The Red Rebels were pushing for an equaliser as Max Dearnley was focused on keeping clean sheet after saving a shot from close range which came from Charlie Munro.
In the 38th minute, John Rooney came close to giving Macclesfield a two-goal cushion as his shot went marginally passed the post.
Two minutes later, Danny Elliott almost extended the lead as after the ball had been knocked about inside the FC United of Manchester’s box.
It wouldn’t be until the start of the second half where the Silkmen would go 2-0 up as Elliott converted the ball from close range in the 55th minute.
With 20 minutes left to play, Elliott came close to scoring a brace after heading just wide of the post after a wonderful cross from Pemberton.
Dearnley still ensured that he would keep a clean sheet in the game after stopping Adam Le Fondre’s powerful effort.
Lewis Fensome almost put his name on the scoresheet when Neil Kengni played a lobbed pass to the 24-year-old, who remarkably stayed onside, but was unable to head the ball on target.
Macclesfield continue to reign supreme in the Northern Premier League as they are now 16 points clear, despite playing two more games than second-placed Guiseley.
The Silkmen will travel to Lincolnshire next Saturday as they face Gainsborough Trinity.
