Macclesfield FC get back-to-back wins after a dominant display to beat Gainsborough Trinity 4-0.

The Silkmen did not take long to score the opener as Luke Duffy made the scoresheet inside three minutes after a terrific solo effort.

Robbie Savage’s side nearly doubled their lead after 10 minutes when Sean Etaluku worked the ball down the line, before finding D’mani Mellor who saw his shot go narrowly off target.

In the 33rd minute, Danny Elliott doubled the away team’s lead after receiving a through ball which fell kindly for him to go around Dylan Wharton and just about find the net.

Gainsborough Trinity came close to getting a goal back as Fraser Preston’s effort was remarkably saved by Max Dearnley.

The second half saw Macclesfield aiming to increase their lead as John Rooney’s free kick was denied by Wharton before Sean Etaluku blasted a shot straight at the keeper.

The Silkmen soon claimed a three-goal cushion in the 56th minute as Elliott’s turn and shot did just enough to beat Wharton, making it his seventh goal in five games.

Dearnley was determined to keep another clean sheet as he denied Ashley Jackson’s shot to keep the game at 3-0.

The league leaders grabbed their fourth goal of the game with just over 10 minutes left to play after a brilliant cross from Neil Kengni saw Mellor score at the near post with a header that could not be stopped by the Gainsborough keeper.

Macclesfield remain 16 points clear at the top of the table after earning their 22nd victory in the Northern Premier League this season.

The Silkmen will return to the Leasing.com Stadium on Saturday as they come up against 21st placed Basford United.
