Macclesfield FC continue their rich run of form after a comfortable 5-1 victory against Lancaster City.

The game did not start to plan as four minutes in, Dylan Thompson headed in a cross from the six-yard area for Lancaster.

It would not take long for the Silkmen to respond as Danny Elliott was fouled in the 18-yard box, leaving the referee no choice but to give a penalty.

Elliott stepped up and equalised with a composed shot into the bottom corner.

In the 36th minute, Macclesfield almost went behind again when substitute, Lewis Coulton, was through on goal but would pull his shot wide at the near post.

Robbie Savage’s men took the lead just before half-time when Paul Dawson placed a nice pass into the path of Justin Johnson who calmly placed the ball in the bottom right corner.

Not long after the second half kicked off, Dawson played a long ball over the top which saw Elliott unable to convert his one-on-one chance.

The Nottingham-born striker would soon redeem that chance and get his second goal of the game when a cross from Luke Duffy found Elliott in the six-yard box, scoring with a well-controlled finish.

Inside 60 minutes, Macclesfield extended their lead after D’Mani Mellor found space to play the ball to James Edmondson. Edmondson dribbled around the goalkeeper before netting his second goal in three games for the club.

With 10 minutes left to play, Danny Whitehead found himself on the scoresheet after John Rooney’s cross was deflected towards the substitute, scoring outside the box and giving the keeper no chance.

The Silkmen go 13 points clear at the top of the table and remain unbeaten.

Macclesfield FC will not have to wait long for their next match as they play at home to Stalybridge Celtics in the Cheshire Senior Cup on the Tuesday night.
