Macclesfield FC’s unbeaten home record comes to an end after losing 2-1 to Leek Town.
The first half did not showcase any particular chances until the 18th minute when James Edmondson’s shot from outside the box just raised over the bar.
Leek thought they had broken the deadlock when a mistake from Justin Johnson saw Alex Hirst play the ball into Louis Potts who thought he had scored, but the goal was disallowed for handball.
In the 35th minute, Luke Duffy took the lead for the Silkmen from a well-constructed goal, beating the keeper at his front post.
Two minutes later, Leek Town drew level as after taking advantage of a mistake by Alex Curran, Ollie Shenton had room to shoot across goal, despite Neil Kengni making his best efforts to clear the ball off the line.
Macclesfield came close to taking their lead back on the stroke of half time when a cross was fizzed in from Laurent Mendy, almost producing an own goal as it was flicked out for a corner.
The second half had two teams eager to get three points as inside 60 minutes, Duffy was denied a chance to give himself a brace after a low save from Dino Visser to push it past the post.
In the 77th minute, The Blues nearly took the lead when Potts’ shot was just wide after some chaotic defending in the six-yard area.
On the brink of stoppage time, a corner would give Leek Town the win as the ball fell to Julius Ndene who fired in a late winner for the Staffordshire team, nicking a vital three points for their side.
Despite a heartbreaking defeat on Boxing Day, the Silkmen are thirteen points clear at the top of the table.
Macclesfield’s next fixture will feature a trip to Greater Manchester as they face Hyde United on New Year’s Day.
