Macclesfield FC earned revenge for their first league defeat of the season with a dominant 6-1 victory over Mickleover FC.

The Silkmen started strong in the first 20 minutes as Danny Elliott came close to open the scoring with a header off target and a shot straight at the keeper.

In the 24th minute, Sean Etaluku made a fabulous run down the right-hand side before entering the area to lay off John Rooney who somehow skied his shot.

After 36 minutes, the home side eventually took the lead as Rooney’s corner found Rollin Menayese who headed in his first goal for Macclesfield.

The second half began with a surprise when Andy Dales found space outside the box, before striking the ball into the top corner which put Mickleover on level terms.

Robbie Savage’s men did restore their lead in the 63rd minute as Elliott took advantage of a mistake made by the Mickleover defence as he squared the ball to Rooney who netted his first goal of the year.

Three minutes later, a counterattack broke off for the Silkmen as Etaluku charged forward with the ball before finding Elliott who only needed one touch before scoring.

With 10 minutes left to play, Paul Dawson played a remarkable through ball to Justin Johnson before he was fouled by Yusuf Mersin in the 18-yard box. Rooney converted from the penalty spot to increase their lead to four.

Stoppage time treated the Macclesfield fans to two more goals as the first goal was converted by D’Mani Mellor after a delightful, lobbed pass from Rooney.

Silkmen debutant, Diego De Girolamo, made a goal contribution as he headed the ball into the six-yard box to Dawson who poked the ball home for six.

Macclesfield go 20 points clear at the top and have achieved a goal difference of 51 in the Northern Premier League.

Their next fixture will be a short trip to face Warrington Rylands on Saturday.
