Macclesfield FC go seven points clear at the top of the table after a 1-0 victory over Warrington Rylands.

Danny Elliott broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, securing his 11th goal of the season.

After suffering an injury in the 37th minute, Elliott came off for Alex Curran who almost made an instant impact off the bench when his tight-angled shot was kept out.

With the first half being quiet with chances, the second half would be the same for the first 15 minutes, although Paul Dawson nearly added himself to the scoresheet when he received the ball in the box by a cross from John Rooney, striking the ball straight at the keeper.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, both sides were incredibly close to scoring.

Warrington Rylands’ Cole Lonsdale was looking for an opportunity to equalise just inside the 18-yard area, but a brilliant challenge from substitute, Dontai Gabidon, helped clear the danger.

Shortly after, Macclesfield would break onto the counterattack where Justin Johnson was inches away from scoring, just raising his shot over the bar.

Towards the 90, Edy Maeico made an impression after he came off the bench and almost scored after drilling his shot on target, forcing the goalkeeper to make a difficult save.

The Silkmen would have a late scare after a wicked shot from outside the box and a free-kick in shooting range were just off target, leaving Max Dearnley unworried by the attacking threat.

Robbie Savage’s men make it seven consecutive wins in the Northern Premier League as they continue their reign of dominance at the top of the table.

Macclesfield FC will play their third home match in a row next week on Saturday, this time they will host Ashton United in the first round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
