Macclesfield FC get their first home win of 2025 after coming from behind to win 3-1 against Worksop Town.

The Silkmen started the game strong, creating plenty of attacking opportunities as Tre Pemberton’s shot was stopped in the 10th minute, before Luke Duffy’s strike was just wide of the far post from distance.

Inside 25 minutes, a penalty was awarded for Worksop Town after Max Dearnley collided with Aaron Martin. Liam Hughes converted from the spot kick to break the deadlock.

An equaliser came close in the 33rd minute when Lewis Fensome’s header was narrowly wide.

Macclesfield still had belief that they could find an equaliser as Elliott came close in the second half when his header was just off target from Duffy’s cross.

In the 62nd minute, D’Mani Mellor put Robbie Savage’s side back on level terms after scoring from Justin Johnson’s low cross, earning his 13th goal of the season.

The momentum soon carried on to obtain a second goal as Duffy’s ball went across the six-yard box to find Elliott who netted his 18th league goal of the season and put the Silkmen in front.

Two minutes after Macclesfield’s leading goal, it would go from bad to worse for Worksop as Hamza Bencherif saw red after receiving a second booking for a reckless tackle on Paul Dawson.

As the 90th minute approached, the home side would indefinitely claim three points as despite Elliott’s effort being saved from a terrific long ball from Laurent Mendy, Johnson scored on the rebound to extend the home team’s lead.

The Silkmen continue to be 13 points clear at the top of the Northern Premier League with an eye-catching goal difference of 40.

Macclesfield will travel to the Hurst Cross Stadium on Tuesday night as they face fifth-placed Ashton United.
