Macclesfield FC are delighted to have agreed terms with Sam Heathcote to extend his stay with the Club for another season!
Sam enters his fourth season as a Macclesfield FC player having agreed terms for a further twelve months in the latter stages of last week, and played a consistent role in the Silkmen’s backline for the majority of the 2025/26 Enterprise National League North season.
Heathcote initially joined Macc from Runcorn Linnets in the summer of 2023, where he’d enjoyed a twelve month stint, prior to which he’d also had season long spells at each of West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC, Altrincham, Hyde United and Ramsbottom United, all of which after starting out life in football at Altrincham.
Sam has since been a Silkmen stalwart during his stay with the Club, the longest period spent with any so far in his career, impressing immediately in his inaugural season having scored three goals in all competitions, despite narrowly missing out on promotion from the Northern Premier League in the 2023/24 season, but Macc went one better with the help of Heathcote the following year in our record breaking season, totting up 109 points and scoring 109 goals, of which Sam popped up with one against Hebburn.
The centre-half has been equally as impressive in the most recent 2025/26 Enterprise National League North campaign, earning his place in the starting XI in September and going on to record 37 further appearances and two goals in the main season, in addition to a further two play-off starts and four Emirates FA Cup features, including the unforgettable Third Round victory over then competition holders Crystal Palace at the Leasing.com Stadium.
Sam has quickly become a fans favourite and a respected, senior member of the squad in the dressing room, donning the armband on occasion given his dependable leadership traits, and is now considered a mainstay in the Macc team with over 125 appearances for the Club, deservedly earning him a new deal for the 2026/27 season.
Everyone at Macclesfield FC is delighted to have Sam with us for another season and would like to wish him all the best for the upcoming second season in the Enterprise National League North.
