Macclesfield Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Alex Bruce as the club’s First-Team manager.

Bruce will be joined at The Leasing.com Stadium by former Premier League Full-Back Phil Bardsley as Assistant Manager, former Manchester United Academy Manager of 23 years Paul McGuinness as Head Coach, and Dan Ternent as Head of Recruitment.

We are also pleased to confirm that Peter Band will be staying at the football club as First Team Coach alongside the new coaching staff. Neil Baker will be leaving the football club and Director of Football Robbie Savage thanks Neil for his efforts and may still pay apart in the future.

Having played in The Premier League and having made over 300 appearances, Bruce provides a wealth of experience, and his knowledge will prove invaluable for The Silkmen’s promotion push.

The former Ipswich Town and Hull City defender has previous coaching experience as part of the backroom staff at West Bromwich Albion.

Alex will be assisted by former Sunderland and Burnley full-back Phil Bardsley who also provides a wealth of experience at the highest level and will be able to pass on his expertise.

Bardsley recently retired from professional football and embarks on his first coaching role at the football club and his knowledge and experience will be vital.

Also joining the football club as Head Coach will be former Manchester United Academy Manager Paul McGuinness.

Paul boasts a star-studded CV having been at the forefront of United’s academy for over 20 years and made significant contributions to the development of over 90 players that went on to play in the first team and 23 who became full internationals.

McGuiness has also been Assistant Manager for England’s U18s as well as Heading Leicester City’s Academy setup and provides no end of experience to the coaching staff.

Heading up Alex Bruce’s Recruitment Team will be Dan Ternent. The son of former Burnley manager Stan, Dan has been involved with Hull City in the past and played a major role in bringing players such as Harry Maguire, Andy Robertson, and Jarrod Bowen to The Tigers.

Director of Football Robbie Savage said the following:

“We are delighted to announce that Alex Bruce will be the new First Team manager at Macclesfield FC, Paul McGuinness as Head Coach, Phil Bardsley as Assistant Manager, and Dan Ternent as Head of Recruitment.

“Looking at Alex, Paul, and Phil and with my upbringing, the key values of coming through the system at Manchester United is a fundamental part of why we made these appointments.

“The ethos and the morals and the principles which we want to integrate into the football club are vital going forward. Alex with his coaching experience at West Brom dealing with first-team players and his ability to handle a squad.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Alex who has got all his badges, assisted by Phil Bardsley who recently finished playing in The Premier League at Burnley. His Premier League experience and willingness to improve players and be a part of the journey.

“Dan Ternent has worked at Hull City, Aston Villa, West Brom and was fundamental in bringing the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Andy Robertson and Harry Maguire to Hull.

“For Alex to have Paul McGuinness as his Head Coach provides a blend of youth and experience at Manchester United for over 20 years. For us to acquire the services of Paul McGuinness is a major coup for the football club which inevitably for the benefit of our football club is amazing.

“To have the amount of knowledge that Alex, Paul, Phil, and Dan boast, it is a major incentive for any young footballer looking to develop and we are delighted that they are on board at Macclesfield Football Club.”

Everyone at Macclesfield Football Club would like to wish Alex, Phil, Paul, and Dan every success at the football club.
