Macclesfield FC is proud to support a special charity walk taking place this weekend in memory of Lee Mark Pountley, raising vital funds and awareness for men’s mental health charity ANDYSMANCLUB.
Lee sadly lost his life to suicide in May at the age of 44. A much-loved friend and passionate football supporter, Lee had a particular love for both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Macclesfield FC.
In his memory, a group of Lee’s friends will bring those two footballing passions together by walking more than 60 miles from Molineux Stadium to the Leasing.com Stadium.
The challenge begins on Friday 25th September, with the group walking across two days before arriving at the Leasing.com Stadium on Saturday, in time for our fixture against Harborough Town.
The walk is raising money for ANDYSMANCLUB, a men’s suicide-prevention charity which provides free peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and works to break down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.
The group have already raised an incredible £3,500, and Macclesfield FC would encourage supporters who are able to do so to get behind their efforts by donating or sharing their story.
Speaking about why they are taking on the challenge, Lee’s friends said:
“Lee’s loss has left an unbearable hole in all our lives. He was a massive part of who we are, and those who knew him knew two things for sure: how much he meant to his friends and family, and his total passion for football — specifically Wolverhampton Wanderers and Macclesfield FC.
“To honour Lee’s memory and do something positive in the wake of such a tragedy, a group of us are taking on a challenge that ties his two footballing loves together.”
Every penny raised through the challenge will support ANDYSMANCLUB and its work providing spaces where men can talk openly without judgement.
Whether it is through making a donation, sharing the fundraising page or simply taking the time to check in with a friend, the group hopes the walk can help spread an important message:
