DANNY: “THE LADS WORKED AS HARD AS THEY POSSIBLY COULD”

Danny Whitaker said his squad “worked as hard as they possibly could” after Macclesfield dispatched Bamber Bridge to progress to the First Round proper of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday.

Marcelo Pitaluga was rarely tested by the visitors as a brace from Alex Curran plus goals from Lewis Fensome, Neil Danns, Neil Kengni and Nicky Maynard put the Northern Premier League side to the sword.

It was the perfect response to the league defeat to Bootle as the Manager called on the experience within the squad to provide the vital edge in the tie and put smiles back on the faces of the Silkmen faithful.

After the game, Danny said:

“Everyone’s gone home happy.

“The players have put in a real shift which started midweek in training.

“The lads have been fantastic from Tuesday into Thursday and Friday, and it showed out there today.”

“There was some disappointed players in that dressing room before the start of the game because everyone wanted to play.

“It’s so good to see the lads that went out there perform and put in a real performance and get us into the next round.

The Silkmen progressed to the First Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy in front of a buoyant home crowd and they were rewarded in fine fashion, but Whitaker has emphasised that the whole squad has a part to play this season.

“Everyone needs to be competing.

“That’s the only way we will get better and the only way you win cups and leagues.”
