NICKY MAYNARD SIGNS FOR THE SILKMEN

04 Aug 2022 | First Team

Macclesfield FC are thrilled to announce the signing of lethal goalscorer Nicky Maynard, after he agreed terms with the Club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Nicky began his career at Arsenal, before progressing through the youth ranks at Crewe Alexandra.

Ascending into the First Team at Gresty Road, Nicky went on to make 67 appearances for The Railwaymen – scoring an impressive 35 goals.

Nicky then made the move to Bristol City for a fee of £2.25m in 2008 and he would go on to make 131 appearances for The Robins – scoring 46 goals in the process.

With a wealth of Clubs vying for his signature, Nicky then joined West Ham United in January 2012 and helped The Hammers return to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

Nicky then crossed the Welsh border to join Cardiff City in August 2012, signing a three-year contract with The Bluebirds.

Despite making his debut on 2nd September against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nicky suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament shortly after and this ruled him out of much of the 2012/13 campaign.

Nicky would make 26 appearances for the Welsh outfit in total – scoring three goals.

A loan move to Wigan Athletic ensued, before Nicky signed for newly-promoted Championship side, MK Dons in September 2015.

72 appearances and nine goals later, Nicky crossed the Scottish border to join Aberdeen before returning to England to sign for Bury in September 2018.

Nicky made 41 appearances, scoring 22 times for the Lancastrians – as he became one of the most feared strikers in the lower leagues.

In the summer of 2019, Nicky signed for Mansfield Town and was to remain at Field Mill for two seasons – during which time he scored 19 goals in 56 appearances.

Last season, Nicky reportedly turned down interest from several League One sides to sign for Tranmere Rovers. He would average a goal every three games for the Super White Army before being released earlier in the summer.

The 35-year-old has made 494 professional appearances in total – scoring 152 goals.

We are delighted that Nicky has decided to join us here at Macclesfield FC and we wish him every success during his time at the Leasing.com Stadium.
