A month-by-month review of our 2025/26 Enterprise National League North campaign, next up it’s August!
The Silkmen took on Manchester City U21’s in their final game of their pre-season campaign, falling to a narrow 3-2 defeat in their most competitive game yet ahead of the season’s opener the following Saturday at home to Worksop Town.
Joe Nicholson was the final addition before the curtain raiser, bolstering the goalkeeping department to challenge existing shot-stopper Max Dearnley.
It was the near perfect start to the season for the Silkmen, securing a 3-1 victory at home to last season’s first opposition Worksop Town, Captain Paul Dawson was at the double, setting the tone for the rest of the campaign, whilst top scorer in the Northern Premier League Danny Elliott also notched his first of the season to complete a turnaround having fallen behind to the Tigers early on. The Silkmen ended the day at the top of the table on goal difference, starting as they meant to go on.
Luis Lacey was next through the door at the Leasing.com Stadium, providing competition to flying full-back Brandon Lee just prior to the Silkmen’s first away day of the season at Oxford City, which also resulted in the first loss of the season, despite Isaac Buckley-Ricketts pulling one back to grab his first goal for the Club.
With an immediate opportunity to make amends, Macc then headed to Southport in search of three points and attained exactly that with a 2-1 victory, Buckley-Ricketts was on the scoresheet in consecutive fixtures along with most recent signing Luis Lacey, either side of Mo Touray’s leveller from range.
A return to the Leasing.com Stadium followed to even up the home and away games played so far with four games played inside the first fourteen days of the Enterprise National League North season. Alfreton Town were the visitors, who attended in hope of a point, which they managed to achieve, two goals in quick succession were produced by D’Mani Mellor and Adam Lund, with nothing further to separate the sides, forcing Macc to settle for a draw on home turf.
A further draw was battled out in the Silkmen’s penultimate game of the month away at Spennymoor Town, although on paper appearing to be a bore draw, the reality was far from that with Luke Matheson unable to continue due to injury after just 17 minutes, followed by Rollin Menayese given his marching orders just before the break for a chopping challenge on Glen Taylor. It required something special from the Silkmen to take any positives from the game, which they admirably managed to, retaining a valuable point on the road.
Luke Griffiths joined the Macc ranks just before the end of August providing an additional quality body required in the middle of the park following his departure from Curzon Ashton.
Darlington were Macc’s final opponents of the month back in familiar territory, Danny Elliott and D’Mani Mellor were each on the scoresheet either side of the break, the former from the spot, who dusted himself down having been hauled down inside the area, cancelled out by Jack Maskell’s equaliser moment later before D’Mani Mellor snatched all three points a minute from time to take Macc up to 6th.
