Macclesfield FC can confirm that goalkeeper Shea Callister has joined Derry City on a permanent basis.
The 19 year-old shot-stopper, who joined us in October on dual registration terms from Maghull FC, previously of Hull City, now joins the Candystripes in a standalone deal for the next two years in search of regular game time, having previously been tasked with challenging Max Dearnley for the Silkmen’s number one shirt.
Shea was included in the Macclesfield match day squad for Enterprise National League North fixtures on several occasions, though didn’t register any minutes in the league, but did make two starts for the Silkmen in our brief Cheshire Senior Cup campaign against Congleton and Crewe, impressing in both games, but couldn’t dislodge Dearnley from his regular starting spot between the posts.
The Liverpool-born ‘keeper has been a valuable member of the squad behind the scenes, in the changing room and on the coach to away games as a vibrant character, keen to spread his infectious positivity and motivation throughout the group and now departs the Silkmen with everyone’s best wishes in his move to Northern Ireland.
Callister has been welcomed at Derry with open arms following a brief spell as a trialist in recent weeks, before making the move permanently across the Irish sea, and is contention to make his first start for City in tonight’s League of Ireland Premier Division opener against Sligo Rovers.
Everyone associated with the Silkmen would like to thank Shea for his efforts during his time with the Club and wish him all the best for the future.
