SILKMEN’S ENCHANTING EASTER

The Silkmen visited the children’s ward at Macclesfield District General Hospital over the Easter weekend, bringing smiles to staff and patients faces alike

Member of the first team squad made the short journey across town on Thursday afternoon to make a very special appearance at the local hospital, in collaboration with the East Cheshire NHS Trust and Macclesfield FC Community Sports Trust, where they were able to brighten the days of those currently residing, posing for photographs as they made their way round the colourful corridors.

It was an equally as rewarding day for the players dropping in, who undoubtedly enjoyed the experience and opportunity to give back to our local community in need, who support the Silkmen from their wonderful wards and were delighted to provide them with the chance to meet their heroes.

The majority of the current squad were in attendance and more than happy to spend the afternoon escaping from reality and joining the children in their daily play and activities within the warm, welcoming walls of the hospital.

It was helped by an upturn in weather, allowing for the joy to continue in the outside playground, where further photographs were taken with those who were overwhelmed by the well wishes from the Silkmen.

Staff also were thrilled to have featured as part of the annual visit, who were recognised by the team for all their tireless hard work, providing round the clock care to patients across the hospital who equally deserved to enjoy a moment’s break from their demanding schedule.

Speaking after the magical afternoon, Lee Folkard, Head of MFC CST was overjoyed with how the visit went:

“It’s been amazing to partner with Macclesfield General Hospital again to do something positive for the children on the ward.We had planned to bring the players down at Christmas, however the tragedy from a few days earlier losing Ethan meant we made the decision to postpone till Easter (although the CST still bought some gifts down).

“This yet again shows the power of the partnership between the CST and the club and also the massive respect for our local community that we link into everyday. Just giving a little something back really does go a long way.”

Everyone at Macclesfield FC would like to thank everyone at Macclesfield District General Hospital and the East Cheshire NHS Trust for their valuable time and were delighted to have relieved everyone of the realities of every day life and provide a really positive afternoon for everyone associated.
