MATCH REPORT: MACCLESFIELD 5 V 0 KIDSGROVE ATHLETIC

29 Sep 2022 | Match Report

The Silkmen secured another emphatic victory on Tuesday evening, as they moved five-points clear at the NPL West Division summit.

Danny Whitaker made three changes from Saturday’s Isuzu FA Trophy victory againt Widnes and looked to carry on where they left off.

The visitors had the better of the early stages, testing Marcelo Pitaluga on a number of occasions midway through the half with the Brazilian making a particularly good save to deny Jordan Cole’s low drive on the half-hour mark.

The Silkmen needed a moment of magic to spark them into life and just before the interval, James Berry duly obliged as the winger won the ball inside the Grove half before driving forward and unleashing an emphatic strike into the top corner.

Berry was involved once again just after the break, as his in swinging free-kick was met by Joe Bunney who headed home to score two in two either side of his birthday.

The Silkmen then added a third just before the hour mark, as Alex Curran dispossessed the visitors defence before feeding Neil Danns – who slotted through Neil Kengni before the winger fired into the roof of the net.

Kengni then turned provider as Macclesfield added of fourth moments later, as his swinging cross was tapped home by Tom Clare from close range to effectively end the game as a content.

The home side then created two more good chances as Kengni again forced a great low save from Kidsgrove keeper Ryan Brown and substitute Nicky Maynard was then denied as Macc laid siege.

However, Maynard would be involved in Macclesfield’s fifth as he fed in Neil Danns who crept in at the far post to round off a fantastic team goal.

Grove almost netted a consolation just before the final whistle as Kieran Brown’s bullet header sailed just wide of Pitaluga’s goal.

Ultimately, Whitaker’s side were too good in the second half and make it fifteen goals in their last three games in a five-star display.
